Method of Extraction: Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
Form: CO2 Cannabis Oil
About CO2 Extraction
Carbon Dioxide, or CO2, occurs naturally in our environment: whenever we breathe, with decomposition, and even through ocean release. We find CO2 in our sodas and it’s used as an industrial solvent for creating everything from food extracts to fragrances. It’s known as ‘dry ice’ in its solid form. CO2 is considered safe by the FDA and non-toxic. In the cannabis industry, it is often referred to as a ‘green solvent’.
The generic process is typically referred to as ‘supercritical CO2 extraction’ whereby CO2 is converted to its supercritical state (i.e., having liquid properties while remaining in a gaseous state) by applying very cold temps and pressure and is then used as a solvent to strip the resinous trichomes from the cannabis plant material. All of which occurs in a sophisticated CO2 extraction machine. In addition to supercritical extraction, other methods are also used, such as distillation.
NOTE: CO2 Cannabis Oil is not the same as Full Plant Extraction (FECO) Cannabis Oil in that ethanol is the solvent typically used for FECO, the color of FECO oil is typically very dark brown to black, the chemical compositions are different and their dosing regimens vary.
Ingredients: From the package, it reads “Cannabis Oil. No pesticides or additives. SCCS oil is whole plant extraction (flower and trim), using a CO2 process for the cleanest, most quality oil. Instructions: Can be eaten, sublingually absorbed, vaped or dabbed.”
Type: Indica-dominant Hybrid (approximately 90% / 10%)

Barney’s Farm is the original breeder of Peppermint Kush (and Stella Blue).

Inhalation - Dabbing Assessment
Terpene & Flavor Experience: When dabbed, this oil had an incredibly pure, spicy peppermint flavor with just a wisp of sweetness, as if straight from a peppermint leaf. And, the flavor lingers for a while on the palate. Really wonderful.
Effects: Heavy Indica. A deeply relaxing, mellow stone that can also help to brighten your mood if you’re feeling down. Everything seems to just melt away.
TIP: Experiment with dab temperatures. I’ve found lower temp dabbing to yield the best flavor experience with this oil.
Duration of Effects: 3.5+ hours
Oral Delivery – Capsule Assessment
Dosage Taken: approximately 30mg, delivered orally in capsule form
How to Measure Dosage: A simple way to calculate dosage with a syringe is to take the total MG of THC (or CBD) and divide it by the measurement increments on the syringe. This calculation will identify the total milligrams of a cannabinoid per increment.
Let’s take this review, as an example. I wanted to ingest a 30mg THC dose in capsule form for this review. To determine how much oil I needed to use, I identified that the 1ml (or 1g) syringe is divided into increments of 10 (.1ml) & 5 (.05ml). I then divided 540mg THC (I rounded up) - the total amount of THC in the 1ml syringe, by 20 (increments of 5 = 20 total lines on syringe), which equaled 27mg of THC. As shown in the graphic below, every .05ml (or increment of 5) of this batch of oil in the syringe contains 27mg THC. So, I'll need to take a little more than .05ml for my assessment.
For an infographic of these dosage instructions, see the download button on the Cannabis ED page.
TIP: A common recommended starting dose is generally .05ml. However, consult with your dispensary agent about appropriate dosing for your specific product and medical condition(s).
Flavor Profile: Along with ingesting some in a capsule, I also tasted a very small amount directly in my mouth. The flavor was an intense, spicy peppermint with lots of staying power. It sticks to the teeth and is highly resistant to dissolving. An incredible flavor profile derived from a cannabis flower.
TIP: To learn all about terpenes, see the Terpenes Library page.
Effects: Ingesting orally a 30mg THC dose offers a mellow, sustained session of body and mind relaxation. Everything will feel lighter. It’s a steady but effective ride. For this reviewer, after trying 30mg, a 40-45mg THC dose would have been more effective for me with this batch of oil.
IMPORTANT: The effects, duration and peak times will vary from person to person, sometimes significantly. The effects described in this review will not necessarily always reflect the experiences of others. Please be responsible when using edibles. The #1 reason for a bad experience is being impatient and over-medicating. For more information, see About Edibles and How to Safely Consume Them.
Potency Scale for Experienced Imbibers:
Time Elapsed Before Any Onset of Effects: 1 hr, 10 minutes
Effects Peaked at: 2 hours, 20 minutes
Duration of Effects: 3+ hours
May Help With: Helped with cervical spinal nerve & arthritic symptoms, mood and sleep. May also help with PTSD, appetite, insomnia, body pain, muscle spasms, anxiety (and more)
Conscientious strain selection for an oil. Love the purity, effects and unique terpene properties of this oil. Wished it were a bit more potent as an edible, though still quite effective.

And remember, the next time you turn around, turn around again... 'cause I'll be there.
