Officer Dick Downey's Pot Report
All officers of the law know that the summer heat brings out the crazy in some folks.
Last weekend my partner and I get this call about a man causing some sort of disturbance in his yard. We roll up on the place and see this guy drinking a beer and barbecuing in his front lawn. Only one problem: he happens to be completely naked.
The guy refuses to put on his clothes and starts throwing various grilled meats at us. My partner gets a chicken wing in the eye and I barely dodge a pork chop to the cojones. Hey, that’s no joke! It was a bone-in cut.
Method of Extraction: Butane
Form: Live Resin Wax
What is “Live Resin”?
Live Resin is a specific type of cannabis extract whereby fresh cannabis buds (i.e., buds not yet dried and cured) are harvested at their apex of maturity, flash frozen under very cold temperatures and then used as the extraction material in the manufacturing process of that extract. The process of manufacturing Live Resin is an effort to retain as much of the fresh terpenoids from the cannabis and capture those terpenes in the final product to provide a more complete and intense terpene profile experience.
NOTE: Ryan Suma, a Partner at GTI, speaks about their live resin products in an interview with Officer Downey.
Type: Sativa-Dominant Hybrid (approximately 85-90% Sativa)
Genotype: Maui Wowie = Hawaiian Sativa Heirloom
This strain's exact genetics are unknown and there are several cuts out there.
Contrary to what you may have heard, a true Hawaiian cannabis landrace strain does not exist because cannabis is not indigenous to Hawaii. However, many heirloom strains were cultivated in Hawaii in the 70s and 80s. Maui Waui, and other Hawaiian strains, were bred from heirlooms and are not indigenous landraces.
What is a Landrace strain?
A ‘Landrace’ strain refers to strains that are indigenous to a geographical area, evolved naturally in their original habitat, and stabilized over time as a result of natural inbreeding. Some examples include Columbian Gold, Panama Red and Durban Poison.
What is an “Heirloom” Strain?
Heirloom strains are cannabis strains that were collected worldwide during the 1970s by travelers on the infamous Hippie Trail (aka, Hashish Trail). These heirloom strains were propagated in Hawaii and Northern California in the 1970s and 1980s. This reviewer remembers them well and is still chasing those memories.

Physical Characteristics: Unlike the regular, non-live resin GTI wax, the most noticeable physical difference with this live resin sample was that it was not completely opaque but instead had some translucent visual qualities. The color was a subdued, medium yellow. The slab was very pliable and soft.
Terpene Experience: The quality of the terpene profile for this product is especially important because: 1) The product is a live resin and is supposed to provide a more intense terpene experience; and, 2) the Maui Waui strain is known for its wide-ranging terpene interpretations.
In its intact state, this live resin emitted more nuanced aromas than a non-live resin wax, which included pungency and sweetness with citrus and tropical notes. When dabbed, this live resin wax tasted tropical and floral on the inhale and fruit-sweet and tropical on the exhale.
The Live Resin Test:
Did this live resin wax sample provide a more nuanced and intense terpene experience when compared to a non-live resin wax? For this reviewer, the answer is yes. The aromas and flavors were more complex than a typical non-live resin wax from GTI.
TIP: To learn all about terpenes, see the Terpenes Library page.
How noticeable were the differences that this live resin sample offered compared to a non-live resin wax? For this reviewer, the aromatic intensity of the intact slab itself was quite a bit stronger than a typical non-live resin slab. Regarding taste, the flavors were definitely much more nuanced. The overall strength, or intensity, of those flavors seemed mildly stronger a non-live resin wax.
Effects: An accurate expression of the Maui flower. It’s all at once cerebral and relaxing, in a synchronized way, with lots of mellowness and just enough boost to keep you curious. However, at THC levels around 60%, the potency was short lived and somewhat subdued.
Duration of Effects: 1.5-2 hours
May Help With: Helped with focus and mood. May also help with nausea, anxiety, depression, appetite, mild body pain, some mild forms of nerve pain (and more).
This live resin had lots of flavor but the potency was a lacking for an extract.

Guess I can add evading grilled meats to my job description.
And remember, the next time you turn around, turn around again. . .'cause I'll be there.
