Lime Sorbet Diamonds: Are Forever

NARRATIVE:
"Diamonds are Forever" By Shirley Bassey

ANALYSIS:
Forms: This product includes two forms:

1. “Diamonds”, which are pure THCa crystals
2. “Terp Sauce”, which is a liquid extract that contains a cannabis strain’s comprehensive and concentrated terpenes and cannabinoids profiles.

About the Manufacturing Processes:
!The processes described in this section are general, and therefore, are not necessarily the exact same processes, methods and materials used by Cresco when making these products.

How Diamonds are Made
The creation of pure THCa crystals involves a multi-step chemical process, which begins with a cannabis extract. The extract is mixed with acetic acid and hexane, which dissolves the plant matter but preserves the THC. This solution of extract, acetic acid and hexane is then put in a rotary evaporator, which uses varying degrees of pressure, heat and motion to separate the different materials in a liquid. When the rotary evaporator is finished with its cycle, the THC-a compound remains in a solution.

Next, a process called Chromatography is used to separate and remove the impure elements from the solution. At this point, Sephadex-LH20, Dichloromethane and Chloroform are added to the solution as part of the process. After the chromatography process, the extract is now a solid, THCa crystalline form, but it is still not ready for prime time because these crystals have some unwanted chemicals (e.g., Chloroform) that must be purged. To make THCa crystalline consumable and heighten its purity,  more unwanted chemicals are purged. The crystals are dissolved in methanol and a filter removes all of the leftover residue. Then, to pull the methanol out, the mixture is put back in the rotary evaporator again. Pentane is added, which extracts more ppm (parts per million) of non-THC material. For the final time, that solution goes back in the rotary evaporator. Sometimes terpenes are added at the end for flavor. That is the general process.

How Terp Sauce is Made
If you’re familiar with the term “terp sauce” or “sauce”, then you may envision a syrup-sticky thick liquid extract with small THCa crystals included. However, in the case of this Lime Sorbet terp sauce, the crystals have been removed and the “sauce” portion is what remains.

The basic generic process for making terp sauce is to first use butane as a solvent to derive the extract. Then, instead of putting the extract in a BHO vacuum purging oven, it is placed in a cool, dark place for several days or weeks. During that time, the separation of THCa occurs and, as they say in the biz, “the diamonds stack”. Next, after the separation has occurred, the liquid sauce component is “poured off” and the purging of the sauce and crystals are done separately.

These processes are time, material, equipment and labor intensive, which is why the retail price is higher than other extracts on the shelves.

Physical Characteristics of Diamonds:
White, opaque, rock candy-like crystals that break up easily.

Physical Characteristics of Terp Sauce:
Pristine, gold-amber colored, syrup-like liquid.

Terpene Profile for Diamonds:
(ppm = Parts Per Million) Beta-Myrcene 355ppm; Terpinolene 731ppm (ACT Labs)

In their intact state, these crystals emitted a very light citrus/hops aroma. After I broke up a crystal, the citrus and hoppy smell becomes more noticeable. When dabbed on their own, the crystals tasted mostly neutral with just a light pungency on my palate.

Terpene Profile for Terp Sauce:
The top three terpenes with the highest quantities present are highlighted in red text.
(ppm = Parts Per Million)

Alpha-Bisibolol 473ppm; Delta 3 Carene 2930ppm; Caryophyllene 5075ppm; p-Cymene 30503ppm; Eucalyptol 414ppm; Alpha-Humulene 453ppm; Limonene 13494ppm; Linalool 2858ppm; Beta-Myrcene 88372ppm; Nerolidol 4210ppm; Alpha-Pinene 7003ppm; Beta-Pinene 5993ppm; Terpinene 2722ppm; Terpinolene 110186ppm (ACT Labs)

The terp sauce smelled assertively of pungent, skunky lime. When dabbed on its own, this sauce tasted intensely of tart, sweet and skunky lime. It was like a skunky key lime pie. Outstanding flavor.

TIPS:
Low temperature dabbing is mandatory to achieve the most flavorful and potent experience with this product. If you dab this and it doesn’t taste like much, then you’re dabbing too hot. To learn how you can use this terpenes data to better your health, see the Terpenes Library.

Effects of Diamonds:
When dabbed on their own, the high from the crystals is quite potent as you might expect, mostly one-dimensional and head oriented at first. This is a spiraling high that keeps going and just when you think it’s plateaued, it keeps going. The high does migrate to the body after some time.

Duration of Effects for Diamonds:
2.5+ hours, from one average sized dab hit

Effects of Terp Sauce:
When I dabbed the sauce on its own, the high was a much milder version of the set of effects I experienced when I dabbed the combined forms. A pleasant high that was a balanced mind and body ride.

Duration of Effects for Terp Sauce:
1.5+, from one average sized dab hit

Effects of Combined Forms:
When I dabbed the full experience of the crystals mixed with the terp sauce, the result was a powerful, marathon high that hits the mind and body about equally. These set of effects were potent yet very pleasant and it didn’t knock me out at all, though there was a nice crash at the end. In fact, I found the high to be motivating in some ways, especially with creative and intellectual activities. Because these powerful effects also attend to the body, the combination of the diamonds and sauce offers a host of medicinal benefits.

Duration of Effects for Combined Forms:
3-4 hours, from one average sized dab hit

USAGE TIP: Use a small, silicone dab container to mix the crystals and terp sauce.

May Help With:
Helped with mood, G.I. cramps. May also help with depression, stress, anxiety, all types and levels of pain, appetite (and more).

Rating: 5/5
A complex & unique product that goes beyond a novelty to offer wide-ranging medicinal value and supreme flavor. In some ways, this product can be thought of as a complete “sauce” whereby the crystals and liquid components have been separated and highly refined.

Product Improvement Suggestions: Hi Cresco. Here are a couple of enhancements to consider. Thanks.
-Include one of those small, round silicone-lined containers (like the ones Cresco uses to package live resins) so it can            be used as a mixing vessel.

-There's not enough terp sauce for all the crystals. More terp sauce, please!

RPT SUMMARY:

I don't need love, for what good will love do me?
Diamonds never lie to me

And remember, the next time you turn around, turn around again...’cause I’ll be there.
